Dr. Vickey Maclin

Dr. Maclin is the Associate Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling at

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

TOPIC: 


"Multicultural & Racial Trauma: 

Therapeutic Sensitivities" 


Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify the importance of ethical considerations when providing counseling with racially or ethnically diverse clients.
  2. Participants will be able to assess and critique current practices when providing counseling to racially and ethnically diverse clients who are affected by trauma.
  3. Participants will be able to explain the benefits of engaging with clients of color about trauma related racial and cultural spaces in their lives.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: 

Dr. Vickey Maclin

Dr. Maclin is the Associate Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte. She is a Licensed Psychological Associate in North Carolina. She received her M.A. in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary (1997) and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College (2007). She served for 18 years as a missionary with Cru discipling and training high school students and in the National Office working with several different ministries. In addition to teaching in the counseling program she also provides counseling services to children, adolescents, families, individuals and couples for a diversity of issues. Her interest, training, and research are in the area of helping individuals to gain clearer understandings of how issues of diversity, such as race, ethnicity, culture, and religion can factor into the development and clinical services that are offered to individuals. She has spoken at several different conferences on these topics. When not teaching or counseling she loves engaging with the many close and dear friends.
